Looking for ways to help Books to Prisoners (BTP)?
Want to learn more about prison literacy and prison issues?
Do you like to write?
If you answered “yes” to these questions, consider joining the BTP Blog Team! We are looking for a few good writers to join us in brainstorming, writing, and reviewing posts and articles for the BTP Blog.
Here’s some FAQs.
Q: What is involved in being part of the BTP Blog Team?
A: Attend our online team meeting on the last Monday of each month from 5:30-6:00pm to brainstorm blog topics, write an article every month or every other month, and review other members’ articles once per month.
Q: How many hours does it require?
A: Approximately 2-4 hours per month, but it’s flexible.
Q: What would I be writing about?
A: Take a look at the BTP Blog to get an idea of the diverse articles and updates we’ve published in the past few months. You could be writing about how a particular holiday relates to people in prison, the latest restrictions on books in a particular state prison system, a recent BTP community event, and more.
Q: Who is currently on the BTP Blog Team?
A: Ella Foskett (BTP Program Coordinator), Clinton Chin, Sophie Belz, Siri McGuire, and Peg Cheng.
Q: What do you like about being on the BTP Blog Team?
Ella: I enjoy working with the volunteers on the blog team to identify themes, questions, and issues that would be valuable for BTP to share information on. I have loved researching new topics and seeing the different ideas people bring to the table.
Clinton: I love being involved in the process of hearing ideas from different perspectives and watching them blossom into the posts everyone reads on the blog. It is a grand privilege to support lifting people's voices so they can share their unique stories.
Sophie: I enjoy sharing ideas and feedback with the blog team, reading/writing about issues that affect our incarcerated community members, and sharing what I learn with the BTP community. Working with the blog team has encouraged me to dive deeper and learn more about the impacts of the American carceral system.
Peg: I enjoy brainstorming with the team every month and also like learning more about prison issues through doing research for my articles. I also enjoy writing posts that feature updates from BTP or are related to promoting BTP’s mission and its volunteers.
Siri: I really appreciate having the chance to collaborate with other volunteers to research and write articles. In particular, I loved working with Peg to put together the BTP Community Night post earlier this year, which drew on the talents of and contributions of several BTP volunteers. It’s also a great way to be involved with BTP remotely and to learn more about the issues relevant to BTP’s work.
