Dear Books to Prisoners 2!

In 2018, Books to Prisoners (BTP) embarked on a publication journey. The goal was to publish a book of letters to share incarcerated voices and experiences with more people in our community, and hopefully invite curiosity about our incarcerated peers and the state of their lives. We enclosed the question, “How has receiving these books affected your life?” in each of our book packages and the answers came pouring in. 

The result became a nearly 200-page book, Dear Books to Prisoners; Letters from the Incarcerated, full of letters speaking on the experience of reading in prison and the levels of information censorship people are subjected to. The letters touch on everything from the loss of individual identity, to the escape provided by books, to the hope knowledge can give you, and the reminder that people outside the prison remember that you exist. 

In late 2025, we took up the task again in order to start the journey of creating our second book, Dear BTP 2! Since late 2025 we have been including a list of questions in all our packages to prompt responses. A few months ago, we hit our 100-letter goal and sent our materials off to our publisher, and now we patiently wait for the creation of our book!
